The Wisdom of The Heart...

Lately I have been spending a lot of time staring at a brick wall in my room. In fact, in this very moment I am up against the brick wall- literally and figuratively. Somehow I have arrived, yet again, to a place in my life where there seems to be no way forward. I cannot go under, over, or around the situation. There is no use pretending it is not there...

Hire a demolition crew you say? I wish it were that easy. Choose a different room? The thing about brick walls is that they usually make up part of the foundation of the house. They are often hidden behind other types of walls. After a million machinations my mind is tempted to reduce the dilemma to an either/or decision. Rail against the brick wall because it is cold, hard, and crumbling; or give up and seek a new home made of other materials...

When I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, there is only one space where I find peace: the heart. Here, I can reconcile any conflict by resting in a consciousness vast enough to encompass all of my dissonant feelings. I am less tortured by the tug of war between logic and desire. I do not feel obligated to explain, justify, or convince. I feel encouraged to trust despite my fears. In my heart I know that all things are possible...

All of the sudden the brick wall looks much less formidable. Sometimes I can even rest against it and appreciate the sun shining its warmth upon me. Accepting the brick wall, just as it is, helps me find the best way to relate to it. This process is not particularly popular, sexy, or marketable. There is way too much humility and way too little control involved to make a good commercial or sell the idea of a solution...

The heart offers a quieter, subtler balm. It whispers that you are worthy, just as you are. It helps you understand how the brick wall is supporting your growth by being exactly what, where, and how it is. Your heart houses the greatest power of all: love. That is the only thing that can move mountains, stop wars, and make any sense of brick walls...

Love. Always.
